My Story

“I grew up in a large artistic and creative family; art filled our home. My mother taught us to recognize our gifts and pursue them with purpose. From an early age, I was drawn to fashion—to drawing, sewing, and the enduring allure of Paris. Many evenings found me sketching designs and studying fashion history, already certain that I would one day become a designer.
After earning my degree in Fashion Design, I founded a couture atelier, creating custom-fit clothing and wardrobes shaped to the lives and individuality of those who wore them.”

Gail Gaines is an artist, designer, and storyteller in fabric and line. She holds a BFA in Fashion Design from Moore College of Art & Design and an MS in Museum Leadership and Arts Administration from Drexel University. She is a Moore College of Art and Design 2013 Distinguished Alumni.

Her work includes Freedom Rising, created for the ‘Bells Across PA’ series commemorating the United States’ 250th anniversary, as well as Sankofa: Anvil for Allen, both quilt sculptures housed in the museum at Mother Bethel AME Church. Additional works include Every Little Detail in the Free Library of Philadelphia’s collection and artwork on permanent display in the October Gallery Collection at Cheyney University.
